NEP 2020 and thoughtful AI adoption in schools

NEP 2020 places teaching, evaluation and teacher development among the purposes of educational technology. For a school adopting AI, a useful starting point is a specific teaching need: preparing resources, understanding learning gaps or supporting professional growth.

Begin with a teaching purpose

NEP 2020’s discussion of technology includes teaching, evaluation and teacher development. Start AI adoption with a concrete question: which preparation or assessment task could be better supported? A specific purpose makes a pilot easier to evaluate.

Build teacher capacity alongside access

Give teachers practical examples using their own grade, subject and curriculum. Include time to practise writing context, reviewing outputs and adapting materials. Tool access alone is not a professional learning programme.

Connect preparation with evidence of learning

Try a connected workflow: plan a lesson, prepare differentiated practice, create a short assessment and review the responses. Use the evidence to decide what to reteach or extend.

Evaluate before expanding

Agree what a useful pilot would look like. Gather teacher feedback about quality, preparation effort and classroom fit. Discuss privacy, access and support needs before expanding to more teachers or campuses.
